"Should I take him to daycare or book boarding?" It's one of the questions we hear most often at Madagascar Pet Hotel, and the short answer is: it depends on how long you'll be away and what your dog needs. After more than 30 years caring for pets in Aguascalientes, here's a clear breakdown of the real differences between the two services so you can choose with confidence.
What's the difference between daycare and boarding?
Daycare is daytime care with no overnight stay: your dog spends the day with us and goes home that same afternoon. Boarding includes the night: your dog sleeps in a private suite and can stay anywhere from 1 night to extended stays.
In practice, it looks like this:
| Aspect | Daycare | Boarding |
|---|---|---|
| Price | From $200 MXN/day | From $286 MXN/night |
| Hours | Mon–Sat, 9 AM–2 PM and 3 PM–6 PM | Check-in 2 PM, check-out 11 AM |
| Sleeps here? | No, goes home | Yes, in a private cage-free suite |
| Meals | Midday meal | 3 meals a day |
| Veterinary supervision | During the day | 24/7, with a nightly wellness check |
| WhatsApp updates | Photos during the day | Daily photos and videos |
| Best for | Workdays, socialization | Trips, vacations, multi-day absences |
Both services include supervised play in small groups, rest time in private areas, and the option to bring your dog's own food.
When is daycare the right choice?
Daycare is the right choice when you sleep at home but spend the day out: long workdays, errands, or especially busy days. Monday through Saturday, you can drop your dog off between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM or 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM, and pick them up the same day.
It's the best option if your dog:
- Spends long hours alone and gets bored, barks, or chews things.
- Has lots of energy and needs to play and socialize with other dogs.
- Is young and in a key socialization window.
- Gets anxious when the house is empty all day.
Many of our Aguascalientes clients use daycare on a regular schedule, 2 or 3 days a week, as part of their dog's routine. See the details on our dog daycare in Aguascalientes page.
When is boarding the right choice?
Boarding is the right choice whenever you'll spend at least one night away from home: business trips, vacations, family emergencies, or any absence where your dog can't stay with company. From $286 MXN per night, your dog sleeps in a private suite, gets three meals a day, supervised walks, and 24/7 veterinary supervision.
Choose boarding if:
- Your trip includes one or more nights away.
- Your dog takes scheduled medication (our trained staff administer it on your schedule; priced by treatment).
- You'd rather not depend on favors from relatives for several days.
- You want daily photos and videos via WhatsApp while you're away.
Two promotions are running: 2×1, where boarding two pets together for 14+ days means the lower-rate pet stays free; and pay 15 days, get 30, with credit valid for 12 months and splittable across several stays. We also offer discounts for multiple pets, extended stays and advance bookings — contact us for your quote. More details on our dog boarding in Aguascalientes page.
Which option is better for a puppy?
For puppies, daycare is usually the best starting point, because it lets them socialize in small, supervised groups without spending the night away from home. The early socialization window is critical to raising a confident, balanced adult dog, and play groups with a small pet-to-staff ratio are a far more controlled environment than a public park.
One requirement first: before their first day, your puppy needs age-appropriate vaccinations (combination vaccine, rabies, and Bordetella as their schedule allows) and deworming applied within the last 3 months. Our veterinary team can advise you on the right time to start based on their vaccine calendar.
When your first long trip comes around, a puppy who already knows daycare adapts much faster to boarding: the place, the smells, and the staff are already familiar.
What does a typical day look like in each service?
In daycare, the day alternates supervised group play with rest periods in private areas, plus a midday meal. Groups stay small — 3 to 4 pets per staff member — so play stays safe and nobody goes unnoticed.
In boarding, the routine is more complete: three meals a day on a consistent schedule, 1 or 2 supervised walks of 20–30 minutes to nearby parks and green areas, play time, a daily health check by the veterinary team, and a nightly wellness round before bed. Dogs with mobility issues receive alternative exercise adapted to their condition.
In both cases you get proof of the day via WhatsApp, so you're never left wondering how it's going.
Can you combine daycare and boarding?
Yes — and it's actually what we recommend most for first-time boarders. One or two daycare visits before an overnight stay work as a "rehearsal": your dog gets to know the facility and the staff in short sessions, and that first night away from home feels far less strange.
You can also combine services within the same stay: for example, schedule a bath or haircut with our grooming service for check-out day and pick up a clean, happy dog.
Book the option your dog needs
Daycare for everyday life, boarding for trips — and in both cases, the peace of mind that your dog is supervised by a veterinary-backed team at either of our two Aguascalientes locations: Colonia Héroes (north) and Jardines del Sol (south).
Still not sure which fits your situation? Message us on WhatsApp at +52 449 448 5486 and tell us about your dog, or book online for a first daycare day or boarding night. Our team will help you choose, no strings attached.
